Bashambar DHAWAN

Obituary of Bashambar Dass DHAWAN

Dr. Bashambar Dass Dhawan of Chandigarh, India, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 94 years.

Dr. B.D. Dhawan lived the successes of multiple lives in one: he first retired from the prestigious post of Deputy Secretary with the Government of Punjab Civil Services, India, where he helped bring justice to thousands of people through his honesty and hard work with the power bestowed upon him by the government. In the midst of corruption, Dr. Dhawan stood as a pillar of strength and fought for justice, a trait remembered and honored through generations by all those he helped – not compromising no matter what the stakes were. After retirement, as his first grandchild was born, he went back to university to acquire additional learning and finally a Doctorate in Philosophy in Vedic Literature to satisfy his deep-seated inner urge to unravel the mysteries of the Absolute-Being via the formal study of metaphysical knowledge. In the years to come, as a scholar of Vedic literature, he authored five books and lectured at various institutions to break misconceptions on Vedic studies and how to acquire epistemic knowledge on living a happy, honest and fulfilling life. His books can be found at http://drbddhawan.blogspot.com/.

In addition to being a successful man from a career and epistemic standpoint, he was a loving husband, father and an even more adoring grandfather. From stocking up on every grandkid’s favorite dessert to having an adoring song that matches each kid’s personality and likings, he always made time to remind them of their most precious virtues. He not only taught us all of the importance of living a virtuous and disciplined life he facilitated the same by setting an example himself. For the last 35 to 40 years each grandchild has witnessed a man who not once failed to wake up at 5 am to start his perfectly balanced routine that incorporated yoga, meditation, healthy eating, writing his books and spending quality family time. The most valuable gift he gave his family was that of health – which allowed us to have the luxury of his company and teachings till the magical age of 94 years. We thank him for blessing us with his company, teaching us crucial soulful life skills and always seeing and appreciating the best in us and most importantly loving us unconditionally through all our vices and imperfections.

Dr. B.D. Dhawan leaves behind his oldest loving daughter Sangeeta and son–in-law Varinder Nayar, his loving middle son Deepak and daughter-in-law Rekha and his loving youngest son Chander Mohan and daughter in-law Sonia Dhawan followed by seven grandchildren and three grandchildren-in-laws and four great grandchildren who will all miss him dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
