Obituary of Alexander FORSTER

Please share a memory of Alexander to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alexander Carl Forster, beloved father and grandfather, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital, January 20th, 2014, of complications from pneumonia. Alex was born and raised in Eastside Calgary with his brothers Gerry and Don going on to complete his education at Western Canada High School. Not long afterwards he joined the Navy, serving for a couple of years on a Corvette on both coasts until the end of the war. After his discharge from the navy, Alex attended the Calgary Business College to take a bookkeeping course and that is where he met and later married Rae in May of 1949. Upon completing college he had a change of heart and decided to join the Calgary Police Service and did so in September of 1946. Alex had a long and distinguished career of thirty-five years with the Force and retired April 4th, 1981 at the rank of Deputy Police Chief. Alex was also a long time member of the Shriners and he and Rae went on many trips in Canada and the U.S. meeting and making many friends. Throughout his life Alex was an avid R.V., boating and fishing enthusiast, spending many enjoyable hours on the water and around the campfire with friends and family. Later in life his patience and interest turned to building remote controlled planes and learning to fly them, which he loved doing for several years. He leaves to mourn his two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Ida, Scott and Shannon and his adored granddaughter, Taylor. As well, he is mourned by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Doreen Forster of Houston, British Columbia and beloved in-laws Duane and Doreen Neville of Calgary; Norma Appley of Glendora, California; Glen and Ann Sather of New York City, New York; and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Alex was predeceased by his wife Rae, in 2002, his brother Gerry in 2008 and his mother Hope. Memorial Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W.
