Elaine SANDERSON

Obituary of Elaine Christie SANDERSON

Elaine, beloved wife of Ken Sanderson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, April 02, 2019 at the age of 79 years. Elaine and Ken were married for 56 years.

Elaine attended school in Brunkild and Elm Creek, Manitoba, and graduated from St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1960. She then worked as a registered nurse in Manitoba and on Long Island, NY. Being strongly family focused, Elaine and Ken raised four children. As her children were growing, Elaine worked part-time as a nurse for a number of years. Elaine was also involved with First Nations and environmental causes and actively volunteered with refugee support in the 80’s and 90’s. Following the example set by her grandmother and mother, she was an avid quilter, and continued it even to her last days. Elaine enjoyed time with family including being a loving, supportive and helpful grandmother to her many grandchildren. She was a loyal friend to many. She enjoyed gardening and landscaping, time outdoors, music, travel, language, reading, cooking, learning and researching, and home design. She wanted to be remembered as someone who lived by her values.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband Ken; her daughters Kathy (Pat) and Valerie (David); her sons David (Rita) and Glyn (Trina); grandchildren Baylee, Jayde, Sean, Calvin, Shailah, Jeena, Dane and Mia; and sister, JoAnne Murray. She will also be missed by many other family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2:00pm.

Elaine and Ken supported a number of organizations over the years, including MSF, Oxfam, and Amnesty International.

In lieu of flowers please support one of these, or the organization of your choice.
