Obituary of Kerry Allan Allred

Please share a memory of Kerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kerry Allred of Calgary, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the age of 75 years.

Kerry was born in Pincher Creek, and after a few short years in Twin Butte, moved to Waterton Park to grow amid the mountains, lakes and nature at its finest. Summers were spent hiking, fishing, camping and waterskiing on the icy lake. Winters were a delight of skiing, skating on the lake and camping.

After finishing high school in Pincher Creek, Kerry attended SAIT to graduate in Electronics Technology. This led him to a career in the oil patch, with Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas, on their seismic crew. They worked southern Saskatchewan, central and southern Alberta, then a wonderful summer in Prince Edward Island, followed by less pleasant times in the far reaches of northern Alberta.

He joined the Petroleum Ski Club for many lively and fun-filled ski trips and parties. In 1969, Kerry took a five week tour of some great ski resorts in the US-Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Alta, Steamboat Springs, Aspen Vail, Taos and Lake Tahoe.

Many summer days were spent at the Calgary Tennis Club.

After a few miscellaneous jobs, he joined Home Oil in 1973, processing seismic data and later supervising geophysical field operations.

During this time, he developed a growing interest in wine, first through the American Wine Society, then, in 1992 Kerry and five others started the Australian Wine Society. He was President since 1997. This has led to making numerous great friends and attending many exciting and delicious wine events in Calgary, Vancouver and all over Australia.

Kerry is survived by his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken (Marge) and Milt (Judy). He is also survived by his two nieces, Susan (Damien) Clift and their sons James and Owen; and Kimberly Allred, and his three nephews, Mark, Keith, and Paul (Diane) and their son Thomas.

“Now as the winds blow around Waterton, I bid a fond farewell to all of the friends I have known.” ~ Kerry

A Celebration of kerry's life will be held at a later date.
