Obituary of James David Skinner
Jim Skinner, our beloved “DAD” (he always said he was too young to be a Grandfather), husband of the late Doreen (nee Doubtfire) of Calgary, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the age of 93 years.
Jim married Doreen on June 6, 1948 and they immigrated to Canada in 1957.
Jim accomplished much through his life and he was particularly proud of his military career with the British 6th Airborne, Canada’s armoured regiments the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadian) and the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Lahr Germany, and the Canadian Armoured Corp School at CFB Borden. He was a distinguished member of the Freemasons.
Jim was an avid crib and crazy 8’s player and he was his most entertaining and joyous self when he played with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his sons, Timothy (Suzanne) and Michael (Debra); his grandchildren, Tamara (Damian), Stuart (Sarah), and Matt; great-grandchildren Courtney, Cameron, Kennedy, Jack, Sean and Celia.
A Gathering will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
