I have just learned of Brian's passing. My deepest sympathy to all of his family and friends.
I was Brian's Denver friend. I recall the best trip of my life then. We took a camping trip with Brian's friend Neal and a gal named Linda. We traveled out west to the Grand Canyon and hiked down. I thought I would die from heat stroke but Brian lagged behind with me, encouraging me to rest, hydrate and move forward. I did so with a vengeance and we made it to the bottom and back out in about 7 hours. We camped in Utah at Arches. We ate at wonderful, iconic, off the path eateries. I kept a journal and I read it often. We traveled in Brian's orange ( painted for Denver Broncos ) van with expandable roof. Crossing the Continental Divide on the shoulder going 6 miles per hour We experienced something very funny. An elderly man PASSED us on his bicycle! We all laughed for days. I recently reconnected with Brian and we had fun reliving our travels and the short time I spent in Calgary with him. He really had exceptional friends, a heart so giving and a sense of humor that kept me laughing. I will remember him fondly. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

I remember Brian from our student days at university in Regina, the late 1960s. I remember the first time I saw him in a philosophy class we both took circa 1968, '69. I noticed him as he never took a single note during the lectures. He just stared at the professor. So of course I became best friends with him. We spent many hours at the Regina Inn, sitting in a booth discussing everything under the sun and drinking beer after beer. It became our routine for Friday nights. I reminded him of that on the phone once a few years ago. And he said to me that those evenings were the most precious memory he had of his student days in Regina. He had moved to Calgary and I had moved to France and Europe back in 1970. I returned to Canada only in 1973 and settled in Montreal. But I always kept in touch with Brian - I used to send him CDs of music all the time which he enjoyed. I had been a radio DJ in Montreal at one point. I have a lot of music. I visited Calgary a few times back in the 1970s. I knew Brian's parents (in Regina) and his younger brothers. I visited their house often - though the boys might not remember. I was about to send Brian some new music but when I telephoned, the line was no longer in service (late last year). I tried emailing but no success. And it was only now I found the obituary. I have photos I took of him back in the day when we were both such young men - when all we had was future. I will look for those photos and publish them here if others are interested. All my sympathies to the family. Of course I'm writing all this while self-isolating here in Montreal due to Covid 19. And the future looks glum. - Ronald Heydon (rheydon@gmail.com)
