Obituary of Rachel Mah

Please share a memory of Rachel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Rachel Mathea Mah on Monday, January 13, 2020 at the age of 15.  She is survived by her loving parents Victor and Aida Mah, her dog Sugar Cookie Mah, as well as a large community of adoring friends and family that keep her memory alive.

Rachel was born on June 5, 2004 and raised in Calgary. From a young age, it was clear that Rachel was a performer.  Always a quick learner, she spoke her first lines at only nine months old. Rachel loved to express herself creatively. She danced with McDonald-Wilson Dance Academy for five years, sang with Calgary Girls Choir, acted in Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol in 2012, and even had the opportunity to perform on a Disney stage.  In 2014, Rachel found her theatre family at Calgary Young People’s Theatre where she made friendships as deep and special as though they’d been formed over a lifetime, while also dazzling audiences with her talent, skill, energy, and charisma.  Always the youngest in the cast, Rachel filled every rehearsal room with her youth and vitality, but also impressed kids twice her age with her incredible artistic maturity and intelligence.

In recent years, Rachel played volleyball, winning a Northeast City Junior Championship.  She also enjoyed a great year in #604 Moose Air Cadets where she was selected for flag party, and made many meaningful and lasting friendships.

To those who loved her, Rachel will always be remembered for her boundless energy, ridiculous sense of humor, passion, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.  She gave 110% to everything she did, and felt every emotion strongly. She was kind, intelligent, skilled, and loving and will be missed profoundly.  We are grateful to have known her.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday,January 25, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 3p.m. with a reception to follow. The family requests that guests wear colour to the Celebration of Life (no black attire) to celebrate the colour Rachel gave to the world.
