Obituary of John Kenneth Blair

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing John Kenneth Blair at the age of 67. On February 5, 2020 John gained his wings surrounded by the love of his girls after a 10 year, hard fought battle with Cancer.

John was born on August 10, 1952 in Ottawa Ontario, where he lived until he moved to Calgary, Alberta at the age of 14. John spent most of his life in Calgary, where he attended Branton Junior High, Ernest Manning, and Queen Elizabeth High schools. After high school, John attended the Alberta College of Art (ACA) graduating from the metal arts program where he went on to have a successful career living his passion as an accomplished metalsmith and jeweler. John married his beautiful soul mate and best friend Patricia, on March 15, 1980, in Calgary and went on to have two daughters Jade and Caitlin.

John was a loving husband to Patricia and amazing “girl dad” to Jade and Caitlin; brother to Richard (Cally) Blair; brother-in-law to Doreen (Rodney) Olinyk and Ronald (Lorraine) Strychar. He was a proud grandpa to Quinton, Kaleb, Payton and Cruz D’Costa; father-in-law to Kevin (Jade) and Stephen (Caitlin). Uncle to so many special nieces and nephews and friend to everyone who knew him.

John is predeceased by his parents Dr. WRN, and Audrey Blair and his brother Robert (Ginny).

John lived his life with intent living every moment purposefully, with love and gratitude. To know him was special, to love him was a blessing. John had a special way of making everyone feel important and included. John had a laugh that could be heard for miles and a heart that could be felt from worlds away. The loss of this amazing man will be felt forever.

Our list of thanks is endless, John’s family, friends, and colleagues. Including all of the doctors and nurses who walked with us right until his last moment, with a special thanks to every staff member at the Rosedale Hospice. We will be eternally grateful that you have surrounded us with your comfort and love.
