Obituary of Doreen Phillips

PHILLIPS – Mary Doreen (nee Rowe)

November 28, 1930 – Liverpool, England

February 3, 2020 – Vernon, British Columbia

Doreen Phillips, beloved wife of Raymond M. Phillips, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Doreen was born on November 28, 1930 in Liverpool, England to James and Ellen Rowe. Doreen and Raymond married March 31, 1955 prior to immigrating to Canada June 19, 1955. Together they first resided in Montreal, Quebec then moved north in May of 1960 to Fort Chimo, Northern Quebec - Pangnirtung, Baffin Island - Rankin Inlet, and Hudson’s Bay before moving back south and settling in Calgary, Alberta in August 1967.

Doreen worked in the law profession as a legal secretary both in England and Canada for 35 years. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed playing piano, dancing, singing, travelling, discussing politics and watching hockey and tennis.

Besides her loving husband Raymond, Doreen is survived by their children; Paula Sheppard (Bruce), Gary Phillips (Debbi), Donna Wozni, Terry Phillips; grandchildren Jason Simms (Francesca), Alan Simms, Elizabeth Simms, Michael Phillips, Amanda Phillips, Sid Cat, Josie Phillips, Teryl Phillips; as well as great-grandchildren Alexander and Nikolas Simms, Jacob McLeod and numerous extended family. Doreen was predeceased by her only sibling Pauline Kearns (May 16, 2013), and youngest son Robert James Phillips (June 11, 2019).

The family would like to express their appreciation to all the nurses and support staff at the Polson Residential Care Home for their exemplary care, kindness and compassion provided to Doreen and the family for the last six months.

If friends so desire, a donation may be made to any of the causes Doreen supported, such as The Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association and The Arthritis Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4^th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
