Obituary of Ellen Marie Chopey

 

It is with great sorrow that we announce Ellen Marie Chopey (nee Mortensen) beloved wife of the late George Chopey, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the age of 93.

 

Ellen was born in Camrose, Alberta and was raised on a farm with her younger brother in the Rosalind, Alberta area.   She obtained a BEd in 1968 from the University of Calgary and served as a teacher-librarian in the Calgary schools.

 

Ellen was a curler, square dancer, camper, spoon collector, crocheter, crossword puzzle solver, card player and gardener.    She was also a cross country ski official for the 1988 Winter Olympics and enjoyed it thoroughly.

 

In retirement she travelled extensively with her husband and also enjoyed the cabin in Fairmont, British Columbia where friends and family visited often.

 

Ellen will be sadly missed by her daughters;   Marilyn (Robert) Forbes and Beverly Turner as well as three grandchildren, Jim (Melanie) Forbes, Janice Turner (Greg Sim), and Kristine Mryglod.   She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Tanya, Sidney and Dawson Mryglod.

 

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
