Obituary of Juliana Benner
Juliana Benner (nee Reich) passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at age 97.
Juliana was born in Tomahawk, Alberta on September 15, 1923. She had a great fondness for growing up on the farm as a child. Her home in Calgary was a place of many gatherings and loving memories. She took pride in her large vegetable garden that she kept well into her 90’s. Her pantry was always full of homemade pickles, jams and relishes.
Juliana worked for many years at the downtown Hudson’s Bay. She was active in her community and spent many hours volunteering at Confederation Park Lodge and Kirby Centre. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary at 264 Legion and was a a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her time playing crib at Banff Trail Community, walking, taking pictures with her photography club, and meeting with friends for coffee at the North Hill Shopping Centre.
Our Dad adored her and used to say Juliana always looked like a “Million Bucks” and she certainly did, beautiful and timeless, she was a woman that had style and grace.
Our Mom and Dad had the opportunity to travel the world where they made many amazing memories. One of her fondest memories was getting a hole in one at a Scottish golf course.
Mom was feisty and spirited. Her love and care for her family was fierce. She was very generous, loving, and kind to her grandchildren. They loved and respected her and enjoyed spending time with her.
She will be missed very much by her daughters, Bev Foyn (Tore) and Patty Klassen (Dan); grandchildren Joel Jackson (Jenn), Jennifer Solty’s (Barry), Michelle Stoughton (Shawn), Jessi Martin (Shayne), and Jeff Jackson; great- grandchildren Kaleb, Rylan, Jet, Gryphon, Silver and Indie.
Juliana was predeceased by her husband Peter Benner (2000) and was the last remaining sibling of her family of 13(Reich).
The family would like to extend many thanks to the lovely and amazing staff at Sarcee Carewest Unit’s 1 and 3. Especially to Jennifer, Jeanette, Carleen, Bev, Anne, Shannon, Gerome, Alex, Anne, Kim, Rita, Niehe, Caralee, Marlene, Cory and countless others who went above and beyond their jobs to take care of our Mom.
Our Mom had a great life and we wish her peace.
As per mom’s wishes there will be no public funeral.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to their favourite charities in memory of Juliana.
