I have not seen Norman since 2012 when I was trucking through Calgary, and Norm would come and meet me at his favorite Timmies. We spent thousands of hours together just sitting talking about everything from wildlife to the Lord, as those were Norm's favirite topics.
I always felt a strange comfort just sitting with Norm. He was more of a brother to me, that my own brother.
He loved to visit.. lol.. The bible says that we are to be all things to everyone, and Norman was the best example I have ever witnessed of this.
For the past couple of months, Norm has crossed my mind on a few occasions.
Tonight I decided to look him up on the internet.
I am sad that Norm has left us, in a world without him. He was a stranger to most everyone that ever met him, in the sense that not to many people could understand a selfless heart like Norms. On the flip side, everyone knew of Norm, as he left a huge footprint, in the lives of all in his wake.
Calgary lost a model citizen, and the world lost a beacon of light, that I have never seen diminished in all the years that I have ever known him, and I knew him for several years before I ever came to know him as my friend.
I am sorry for your loss Brenda. Norm loved you so much that he would continually talk about you, with myself and others. You really are the love of his life, and he expressed to me, and others, that he wished he could have given you a grander life, and more of himself.
Back then, neither of us realized that the most anyone could ever give to another, is simply our presence.
I am really taken back to learn that my best friend has passed, and I have left it far to long to reach out to him.
We talked about going to be with the Lord someday, on lots of occasions. Norm was never afraid of it, as He had the most incredible, vivid image in his mind of the glory that awaits each of us that is in Christ Jesus. How he loved the Lord.
In fact, the only fear he ever expressed, was leaving his precious Brenda behind, in a world gone amok.
I firmly believe that I can credit Norman Picard's example of faith in the Lord, in that it heavily impacted my decision to commit my life to Jesus as my Lord and Savior. he was pretty much the first true blue christian that ever befriended me, and I thank God for that.
Norman can best be remembered as the guy that was always reading his bible in Tim Hortons.
He truly was a faithful servant.
He would be holding his back with one hand and a cane with his other, and still in all of that pain that he continually suffered. He would try and help out every soul that passed by, without reservation, or discrimination.
I have no doubt that our brother Norm, is with the Lord Jesus right now. No more pain Norm..
It is with an extremely sorrowful heart that I must say, "good bye". How I wish that I could have been there to tell you, I love you Normy, I will miss you, and I long for the day, that we can celebrate together, at the wedding feast of the Lamb of God.
Oh how we will rejoice my friend.
My heart is broken. But My hope is where you are now.
Brenda, I will keep you in my prayers.
God bless you sister. Keep yourself safe, and comforted.
Dale Casselman
PS.... I picked the green candle because Norm loved nature, and always point out to me, it beauty.
