Obituary of James REID

The family of Jim Reid announce his passing on Sunday, March 23 at the age of 56 years. Jim was supported by his family and friends during his long battle with cancer and he died like he lived, on his own terms, with stubborn determination, a keen sense of humour and a loving heart. Jim was born in Calgary and graduated from Viscount Bennett High School where his interest in art, music and love of football and all sports led to a lifetime of enthusiastic living, creative pursuits and making numerous meaningful friendships. Jim worked primarily for The City of Calgary (Streets Construction & Paving) as a foreman and then, brought these skills and expertise into a private sector career. Jim is survived by his devoted partner Donna Pinnow and his children John (Elysha) and Nicole (Jerry). He was thankful and proud to recently become a grandfather to Jack and Munroe. He is also survived by brother Mike (Kim), sister Darlene (Brian) and many special nieces, nephews and good friends Michelle, Kassy Lynn, Shawn & Dawn, Jordan, Pamela, Jeff, Dorian &Terry, John, Joanne & Jake, Linda, Ken, Judy and Larry. Jim had many close and valued relationships with people he loved wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Jim was predeceased by his mother and father (Bill and Lil Reid) and mother-in-law Amy Pinnow. The family would like to send a special thanks to everyone at the Rockyview Hospital, Unit 93 and the Sarcee Hospice who cared for and appreciated JR during his final months. As requested by Jim, a Celebration will be held in his memory for friends and family to gather and toast a life well lived! This event will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 238 (Bowness), 138 Bowness Centre NW, Calgary, Alberta, on Friday, April 11th from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331-29 Street NW , Calgary, AB, T2N 4N2 or Alberta Health Services Foundation- Carewest Sarcee Hospice, 3504 Sarcee Road SW, Calgary, AB, T3E 4T4.
