Obituary of Mohinder Narain Abbi

Please share a memory of Mohinder to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving dad, grandfather and great grandfather, Mohinder Narain Abbi.  Mohinder passed away peacefully on February 13, 2021 just one month short of his 90th birthday.

Mohinder was born in Panvi, India and immigrated to Canada with his wife and family in 1966.  He was very proud to become a Canadian Citizen in 1971.

Mohinder worked at the General Hospital for 25 years. He was humble and soft-spoken and well-liked by all his co-workers.  After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering with the Hindu temple where he was able to remain connected with his friends.  He always greeted everyone with a big smile.

Unfortunately, the circumstances of the past year often left Mohinder alone in his room unable to enjoy family visits.  Mohinder did not believe in complaining and was always content to make the best of whatever life had to offer.  By far, his greatest joy was to just spend time with his grandchildren and watch them grow and succeed.

Mohinder is survived by his children, Sunita (Keith) and Rajesh (Gail); his grandchildren, Mark, Alison and Brayden; his great granddaughter, Avery; nephews, Arun and Atam Abbi (& family); and sister-in-law, Santosh Wadhwa (Kailash & family).

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Chanchal; brothers, Baldev & Joginder; his sister, Lila Devi; and his parents, Gurdial and Malavi Devi.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Due to COVID restrictions, a Private Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join Mohinder’s service streamed live at www.calgarycrematorium.com on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.

The family would like to thank the devoted staff of Wentworth Manor for their loving support and care over the past seven years.
