Obituary of Magdalene Maria CARR

Please share a memory of Magdalene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Magdalene (Magda), Maria Carr (Hoen), passed away peacefully on April 2, 2021 in Calgary, AB, at the age of 102.

Magda’s longevity is credited to her strong will, sense of self and strong beliefs.

Born in Russia in 1918, she immigrated to Germany and then immigrated to Canada becoming a Canadian Citizen in 1961.  She survived the Second World War and two pandemics.

Magda was an incredibly talented painter.  Each painting was unique and exhibited her love for animals and nature landscapes.

Throughout her life she was devoted to her dogs, walking them daily in Calgary’s River Park.  Her backyard with many trees and plants was something she took a lot of pride in.  Her love of the outdoors and mountains was second to none.

She will be dearly missed by her surviving nephew, Hansjurgen Hermann and his family, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great - grandchildren.

Magda was predeceased by her husband, William Edward Carr, mother, Louise Hoen (Roloff), father Reinhold Hoen; two stepsons, Elvin and Lloyd Carr, stepdaughter Marlene Berlinguette (Carr), her sister Elsa Herrmann (Hoen) and nephew, Wolfgang Hermann.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Cambridge Manor and Prince of Peace who provided invaluable care to her for many years.
