Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Shirley MILLER

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jean Miller (Cline) beloved wife of Eldon Miller of Calgary passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the age of 90 years.

Jean was born to the late Nancy and Harvey Cline in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. She grew up on a farm and moved to Saskatoon as a pre-teen. She was working for the City of Saskatoon when she met Eldon (Don) Miller.  Jean and Don were married in Saskatoon in June of 1955.

Jean and Don moved to Calgary and eventually settled in the Cambrian Heights neighborhood. They had three children: Nancy, Donald and David. Jean and Don moved the family to Edmonton in 1977, then to Houston Texas in 1983 for a couple of years. They returned to Pine Lake Alberta, where they resided until they moved back to Calgary in the ’90’s.

Jean was a loving and dedicated stay-at-home Mom who was known for her warm heart, caring nature, and selflessness. Her contagious warmth extended to all the neighborhood pets and children; she was often the ‘Dr. Doolittle’ of the community. She was also an incredible cook and baker. She would often supply

friends who would regularly show up for dinner and also raid her stash of freshly baked cookies. Jean was a talented seamstress, and her needlework and knitting were delightful. She enjoyed creating special knitted sweaters for her children and grandchildren.

Jean loved singing and adored Patsy Cline. She enjoyed going to church. She volunteered at her children’s school and as a Leader with The Girl Guides of Canada. Later in life, Jean enjoyed traveling the world with her husband Don, and loved visiting relatives in England. She could be spotted passing through the Panama Canal, touring France, and enjoying tea in London. Her kind and gentle spirit will be missed. She was calm in the face of turmoil and would always offer an ear to listen or shoulder to lean on. She truly was the anchor of the family and she exemplified strength and loyalty.

Besides her loving husband Eldon, Jean is survived by her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Dennis of White Rock BC, Son Donald and daughter-in-law Julie of Chilliwack, BC, son David and daughter-in-law Camille of Seattle WA, and grandchildren: Quinn, Asiah, Doug, and Cash, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Calgary for the wonderful care for the past several years and also express gratitude to the phenomenal care and support of Unit 72 of Rocky View Hospital during Mom’s final few days.
