NIKIFORUK – Daniel

February 13, 1935 – Cadomin, Alberta

July 4, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Danny Nikiforuk of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

Danny was born in Cadomin, Alberta on February 13, 1935.  He travelled to Yellowknife to play hockey where he later met Ethel McKinnon.  They were married in 1954.  They moved to Calgary in 1958, settling in the community of Montgomery.

Danny spent 34 years as a letter carrier for Canada Post and epitomized the notion of “Through Rain and Shine”.

Danny was an active community member, volunteering time to scrape and flood ice sheets and coaching hockey and baseball.  Danny and Ethel always planted a huge vegetable garden each year which was his pride and joy.  Nobody was allowed to play on the grass because he took great pride in keeping his turf pristine.

He was an avid fisherman, and could be found crossing the Elbow River up to his waist to get to that perfect fishing hole.  Danny and Ethel enjoyed camping in the mountains upon retirement.  One of their favourite trips was driving to Middletown, CT to visit Tim when he graduated from UConn.

Danny was a loving caregiver to Ethel through her battles with cancer.

Later in life Danny moved to Chartwell Colonel Belcher where he made many new friends.  He recently relocated to Cambridge Manor and was again building a cohort of new friends.

Danny was predeceased by his wife Ethel, his eldest son Terry, and his grandson Michael.  He is survived by his daughter Lorie, his son Tim and wife Lisa and their son Terrence.

As per Danny’s request, there will be no formal funeral.
