Obituary of Daniel VIGLIETTI

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Daniel “Dan” Glen Viglietti, beloved husband of Dawn, passed away on April 22, 2014 at the age of 55 years. Dan was born and raised in Calgary, educated at St. Matthew Elementary/Junior High and St. Francis High School. He was active in Fairview and Triwood Community sports, especially hockey, ball hockey and lacrosse. As a young Boy Scout, Dan received a Lifesaving Award for rescuing his younger brother from a possible drowning. After high school, he worked at various jobs including some time with Alberta Transportation, Roads and Highways, before starting his 30 year career with the City of Calgary Wastewater Treatment/Management. Dan studied and worked his way up to Chief Operator. We are very proud of his contribution to our wonderful city. Dan was a grateful recovering addict who would have celebrated twenty-five years clean in July. Through learning, practising, and living the Principles of the 12 Steps, Dan was always involved in one form of service or another. His contributions in various service positions enriched his life and the lives of many others. Dan was a collector, of hockey cards, record albums, dragons. He loved his cats, his garden and house plants, music, movies and video games. He was much more than your average hockey fan. He was truly fanatic about Martin Brodeur and his beloved New Jersey Devils as well as the Calgary Flames. During his illness and treatment, Dan was strong, accepting and calm, an inspiration to us all. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Dawn (nee Gilliatt); children Rachel Gilliatt, David Lee and Reid Brookes; father Frederick (Marlene) Viglietti; siblings Nancy (Tim) Kanuka, Gerry Viglietti, Donna Viglietti (Megan O'Brien); nieces, Maggie Kanuka, Shay O'Brien, Corinne McFadden; nephews Michael Viglietti, Tanner O'Brien, Owen McFadden; cousins and friends. Dan was predeceased by his mother Margaret Viglietti and grandparents Anthony and Margaret Viglietti, Percy and Lillian Stenton.
