Obituary of Allan BUTTLE

Allan J. Buttle, beloved husband of Betty Buttle of Calgary, passed away on May 7, 2014, at the age of 88 years. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Allan served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War Two. Following the war, he attended McGill University earning his degree in Physical Education. Allan came to Calgary in 1951 and worked at Mount Royal College for five years. He worked briefly at the Calgary YMCA before he moved to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). At SAIT, Allan served as athletic director, coordinator of student activities and director of student services. He also earned a Master's Degree at Oregon State University. He retired from SAIT in 1981. One year later he became the first executive director of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. Allan is survived by Betty, his wife of 61 years; two sons, Timothy (Shelia) of Downey, California and Kenneth (Gwyn) of Tempe, Arizona, as well as two granddaughters, Laura and Michele. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Colonel Belcher for their care.
