Obituary of Thelma ROY

Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thelma Roy, age 84 years of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the Rockyview General Hospital on May 25, 2014. Formerly of Moncton, New Brunswick, Thelma was predeceased by: her husband of 33 years, H.P. (Jacques) Roy, and her son-in-law Mike Fielding, and is survived by her children Paul (Charlene) Roy, Prince Albert, SK, Michelle Roy and Suzanne Roy, Calgary AB; and her grandchildren Katherine Roy and Anna Fielding. Thelma was a long-time resident of Moncton. She and Jacques moved to Moncton in 1959, and raised their family in the community. While her children were still in school, Thelma spent her days taking care of them. She also found the time to give countless hours in volunteer service in the community, many in service for the Canadian Mental Health Association. When her children had graduated, Thelma entered the workplace full-time, and put her many prior years of volunteer experience to good use. She was a driving force behind the Moncton Volunteer Centre, formed in 1977, becoming its director, and for a number of years was also the Maritime representative on the National Volunteer Board. She retired from her administrative duties in 1996, and moved to Calgary in 2002 to be closer to her children and their families. At Thelma’s request, there will be no formal service, instead asking that her friends and family find a moment to raise a glass in celebration of life. The family-at-large wish to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff members of Unit 47 at the Rockyview General Hospital.
