Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carl Andersen of Calgary, AB, passed away on May 26, 2014 at the age of 80 years. Carl Lyng Andersen was born in High River Alberta on August 26, 1933. Raised with his family in Chilliwack B.C. Carl made it through the eighth grade before realising that higher education was not in his future. Instead he hopped on a train and headed east to live with his sister in Ontario. Once there he began his career in the meat industry by delivering meat around the city on his bicycle. Later, Carl moved back west and continued in the industry managing meat departments for various grocery chains in the city of Calgary. There he also met Barbara, they got married in 1955 and together continued in the meat business as co-owners and operators of Butchers Meat Market in the old Burns Building. After getting tired of having cold fingers and losing one to the meat grinder, Carl decided it was time to move on from the butchers’ life and together with Barb in 1968 bought 4 old well site trailers; and Cambrian Trailer Rentals was born, a company that still thrives today. Years after starting Cambrian, Carl turned his attention to buying land in and around the Calgary area. Despite being doubted by some, the properties bought and sold turned out to be well planned and showed that Carl also had a keen sense of real estate. Although the last 10 years have been very trying, Carl had a very strong will that kept him going right up till the end. He is survived by his son Dorn (Stacey), daughter Terry, and grandchildren Chelsea, Jenelle, Ryan and Joel. Carl was predeceased by his loving wife Barb just 5 short months ago. Dad, you were the smartest man I knew and you taught me many important things in my life. I enjoyed every day of the over 33 years we worked together. Love, Dorn. As per Carl’s request there will be no formal funeral service.
