It was a pleasure to work with Michael at Suncor. He was always thoughtful and comprehensive in his approach, and his gentle sense of humour helped us all keep things in perspective.
I am sorry to hear of Michael’s passing. I’ll always remember Michael and his kindness and sense of humour when I think about Easy Cheese spray cheese!

For a time, I was lucky enough to sit across from Michael when he worked for Suncor. I had a chance to really get to know him and he became my friend. We shared the same university background and knew a lot of the same people in our field.
Michael was smart, had great business savvy, and was so much fun to work with. He taught me lines from Full Metal Jacket and told hilarious stories, usually ones at his own expense. One of Michael's greatest gifts was being able to laugh at himself as he navigated life's challenges.
I'm really going to miss catching up with him and having a good laugh. My sincere condolences to the Lawrence family and to Michael's friends. You've honoured his memory beautifully and most importantly to him, ensured Buster continues to be cared for and loved.
Sincerely,
Coral Hulse

Thanks Coral, I remember Michael talking about you and you were special to him, your comments are so true - he could tell a story about his own folly’s and it just made us love him more! ML was one of the best people that any of us could call a friend, we were all lucky to have him in our lives when for as long as we did.

I am saddened to hear of Michael's passing. He was a terrific guy - smart, sensitive, humble, principled, supportive and a lot of fun.
Michael and I worked together on the Communications/Marketing team at CMA Alberta in the 90s. He was good at his job, and a good friend. A couple of stories if I might. Sometimes (well quite often, actually) we'd go for sociable beverages after work and martinis were a favourite. I remember one occasion in particular when we kidded him about the rather large number of olives he'd consumed!
We both went on to other opportunities but stayed in touch for many years. One of the funniest encounters was when we both arrived for an interview for the same job and met in the reception area beforehand! (Neither of us got the job but it did make for some good laughs).
There are lots of stories of course. Michael was the kind of guy people enjoyed being around. No one had a sense of humour like Michael's. In the years we worked together one of his favourite sayings was, "There are gold ships, and silver ships, but there are no ships like friendships". Thank you for yours, Michael. So long; rest easy.
With sincere sympathy to Michael's family,
Barbara Warburton

I was shocked to hear of Michael's sudden passing. I am so sorry. He and I have been friends since we worked together at ATCO Gas in the early 1990's.
Michael was a fantastic and loyal friend, and we shared so many laughs together. Usually at the expense of some of those whom we used to work with! We both had the same, shall we say, distinct brand of humour. Years later we would recount the same stories over and over again.
He was always there for me, as witnessed in 2017 when his connections helped me land what was a fantastic job at TransCanada Pipelines.Michael never forgot a true friend. He was always there when you needed him.
We talked as recently as a few months ago, when he discussed the recent challenges he was facing and the issues I had been through with the death of my 31-year-old son. Although he had never met Fraser, he told me he shed many tears when he learned the news,- a testament to his immense sensitivity.
I am sad that he died so young when many good years of life lay ahead. Wishing peace for his soul and for his family. I know he has been reunited with all of his dogs who went before him. He was one of the good guys.
Sincerely,
Dennis Lanthier.
