Obituary of Mohinder Singh Chhatwal

Please share a memory of Mohinder to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

January 5, 1931 – Badshahpur, Pakistan

October 1, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Growing up, Mohinder had five brothers and two sisters along with his parents living in one house. He then married Darshan Kaur at 19 years of age in Delhi, India, May 21, 1951.

Mohinder spent a few years in Beawar, Rajasthan, and came back to Siwan, Haryana, spending 10 to 12 years there operating flour mills. In 1970, they moved to Kaithal, where he opened a factory with his younger brother. They operated it from 1972 to 1985 and made a good name in the area. He then went to open his own independent factory, which was called Gurunanak Eng Works in Kaithal, Haryana. He was considered very hardworking, especially as a self-taught mechanic, helping all his friends and family when he could.

Due to his passion in machinery, Mohinder wanted his sons to carry his legacy. Even after coming to Canada in 2006, he still used to oversee his business in Delhi. He sacrificed his potential to grow to allow his family to pursue their own dreams. Despite how busy he was, he always prioritized family and made sure to take time to love each and everyone. All his kids are well settled because of his teachings and blessings.

Mohinder is survived by his two sons, Satinder Pal, and Kamaljit, his two daughters, Guljeet, and Amarjeet, and their respective spouses, as well as eight collective grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
