Obituary of Kay Gallant
March 14, 1931 – Watrous, Saskatchewan
October 16, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Kathleen Gallant, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
Although being born in a small town in Saskatchewan and brought up on a farm, Kay could not wait to move to the 'big city' of Saskatoon where, as a young woman, she started working, meeting new people, and having lots of fun! Later, moving to Calgary, she married and had two children, Deborah, and Douglas.
For several years she enjoyed working at the Betty Shop women's "ready to wear" warehouse as a store clerk. She then worked part-time with the Calgary Board of Education at Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, and then at Rosedale Elementary School, in the caretaking department until her retirement in 1996.
Kay always loved having her hair done and dressing up to “go out”, whether it was shopping for new clothes, a drive for coffee with “refills to half full” and a “little meal”, or her favorite, music she could clap or dance to. She liked to be thought of as always being “young at heart” and having a positive attitude in life. Her partner, Pete, joined her in her house where they lived together for over thirty years until he passed away.
Kay was very proud of her two children and their accomplishments in careers and education. During the last several years, Deb and Doug were in Calgary to help with day-to-day living so she could stay in her home for as long as possible while she still tried to do what she could. However, for the last year and a half, she has resided at Bethany Calgary.
"She was especially generous and helpful to her son over the years... Mom was always a loving mother and told him all the time how much she loved him. ‘I love my son very, very much’ was a statement she made many times with regular hugs and kisses. A loving, kind mother she remained to the very end of her long heartfelt life." Douglas.
"Don't worry Mom." Deb
