My memories of Dave are of a great human being, caring, level headed and willing to do more than his share to achieve what was needed. As one of "The Sentinels" I know without doubt that that he was the glue that kept us together and the instigator that "got us together". Truly a sad loss of a fine human being.

I met Dave in 2005 when our families moved next door to each other in Hanson Ranch where we shared many fond memories. We kept in contact over the years and enjoyed a few lunches over noodles and great conversation. I will miss him dearly, my deepest condolences to Jane, Charity, Gillian, Alice and all those whose life he touched in a positive and gentle way.

I am privileged to get to know David through Jane. David and Jane are the perfect couple, both with the brightest minds and the biggest hearts. Jane, I’ve always admired the relationship the two of you shared and have witnessed the important chapters you two went through since we started working together. I am thankful for the few opportunities to visit your home and received your warmest hospitality. I will always remember David fondly and with great respect. Please accept my heartfelt condolence on his passing. May the cherished love and memories of him give you and your family comfort and strength. And please never forget how much you are cherished. My thought and my hearts are with you at this difficult time.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.”

David loved to explore while riding his bike. One of our great adventures was to Moab, Utah. We drove 18 hours straight from Calgary. Elated by the increased speed limit when we hit Montana, we set the minimum at 80 mph. Lots of time to talk. Although David wasn’t taciturn, and he never accused me of being loquacious, he brought a long enough recorded comedy and music to ensure that there were breaks in the conversation. There was plenty of time to discuss diverse topics, interspersed with jokes, laughter and listening to good ol rock and roll.
The pictures included show David in his element; a very happy place. He liked the challenge of difficult climbs, whereas I didn’t. We shared the awe of the strangeness of the rock and the stickiness of “slick rock”. We got along well and shared a penchant for spaghetti and peanut butter. Memories of simple things linger on – who could eat more of an apple and still leave the core.
It was with heavy heart that we left Moab but looked forward to the prospect of someday heading back, perhaps dry camping in the desert with the 5th wheel and rafting the Colorado River. We took 2 days to come home, placing more value on sleep than dollars. The border agents interrogated us and worked the car over for unknown reasons. We didn’t think we looked like drug smugglers, but then neither did Brian Cranston in “Breaking Bad”.
Biking will never be the same without David. I will miss him terribly.

I met Dave back in the early 1990’s in Manhattan, Kansas and have shared the journey with him ever since as a colleague, co-musician and friend. Dave had an encyclopedic memory, a brilliant mind and a razor sharp wit. He was the best friend there has ever been. He loved music, but what he REALLY loved was, after the music was over, sitting down with his friends over a glass of Fireball whiskey and solving the problems of the world. One of a kind. Super Dave, indeed.

My family immigrated from China 11 and half years ago. When we first arrived here, David and Jane lend us generous helps. David went with my husband Rui to get us our first mattress. When they found the mattress is two wide to bring through the narrow stairs into our rent basement, David went home and brought back his tools, dissembled the mattress, brought the parts in, and assembled it in our bedroom. He spent the whole afternoon to help us. We were very touched by his kindness and patience. Now we have bought our house and settled in Canada, but we've never forgotten how David helped us at such a hard moment. He will be loved and remembered for ever!
