Passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 98 years of age.

 

Beloved mother of Kathryn Barber, Ottawa, and Elizabeth Elliott (Dave), Antigua; sister Hazel Blankstein, Vancouver; nephews, Gordon Blankstein (Yvonne), Dr. Kenneth Blankstein, Robert Blankstein (Kelly); niece Pam Mayhew (Barry), Victoria. Cherished Gram to her granddaughters, Jacklyn Power (David) and Kimberly Elliott (James); great-grandsons Benjamin and Matthew Power; grandniece Shelby Blankstein; and grandnephews, Charlie and Nolan Blankstein. Marie was predeceased by her husband James in 1959.

 

Marie will be dearly missed by special friends: Jim and Jane Baxter, Sue and Walter Cooper, Loree Irving, Glen and Lola Swannson, Merry and Brian Chellas and many other dear friends, neighbours and students.

 

Marie studied piano in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan under Lyell Gustin before attending Julliard in New York City. She moved to Calgary to teach piano at Mount Royal College before her marriage to James (Jim). Following his death, she taught piano from her home studio. She was a member of the Piano Diploma Association, Alberta Registered Music Teachers, and Pleasant Heights United Church for many years.

 

Special appreciation for the excellent, compassionate care from the wonderful staff at The Manor Village, Huntington Hills, where Marie resided comfortably for the last ten years.

 

Funeral Services will be held at Calgary Crematorium (3219 – 4th Street NW, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment will be held Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.calgarycrematorium.com.
