Obituary of Elisabeth Johnson

April 1, 1941 – Thisted, Denmark

November 15, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Elisabeth (Beth) Johnson, a loving mother and beloved friend, passed away at the age of 81.

 

Beth was born in Thisted, Denmark, on April 1, 1941 to Hans Peter & Mary Hillerup. Beth married her husband Reginald Johnson in 1969 and welcomed the birth of their son, Mark Johnson, in the same year. After settling in Calgary in 1973, Beth began her lifelong career as a health benefits clerk with local health organizations.

 

Beth had a passion for knitting that surpassed the ability of many others, and during her membership with the Gilli-Hook Society she served as President between many years of being a general member. Beth’s knitting was second to none and exemplified her amazing skill. Her greatest pride was helping others; as a health benefits clerk throughout Calgary, Beth put her hard work and clients first. She overcame great odds to make sure all of her clients were getting the best care they could. She retired her tenure with AHS in the 90’s. Always the hostess — and an amazing one at that — Beth seemed to plan gatherings and events at the perfect time to catch the sun; with a table of Danish cuisine, tea from an elegant pot, and conversation abounding. Beth was humble and caring in every aspect of her being. A loving mother, Beth maintained discipline with a gentle hand and a “tsk” as her characteristic disapproval, never letting a hug be missed and always knowing when one was required.

 

Beth was preceded in death by her husband Reginald Johnson (1924-1997) and is survived by her brother Poul Hillerup, and sisters, Elinor Hillerup, and Anne-Marie Christensen, her son Mark Johnson, goddaughter Pernille Rasmussen, and various extended family.
