Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

February 18, 1938 – Riverton, Manitoba

March 10, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

I am so sad to announce the passing of my beloved husband Robert (Bob) on Friday, March 10th, 2023 in the early evening at home after 44 years together.

Bob was born in Riverton, MB on February 18th, 1938.  He spent some of his early life in Riverton, Portage La Prairie, Selkirk and Winnipeg,  MB.  In 1953, with his family, he moved briefly to Pincher Creek, AB and then to Calgary.  His adult life was spent in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Bob was an optician, contact lens fitter and ocularist. He learned the business from the ground up.  He was particularly proud of his ability to hand paint the iris of a patient for an artificial eye.

Bob loved playing the guitar and renovating our home.  In his later years he was happy spending as much time as we could in our condo in Scottsdale Arizona, sleeping in, and watching the news on the telly.

Bob and Norma travelled in Canada, the USA and Europe.  His favourite trip was to England to visit the WWI grave of his paternal grandfather, and then to Iceland where he was very proud to see the land where his family came from.

He will be most remembered for his attention to detail and his need to always do his best in all things. Bob displayed incredible strength with his battle with cancers in his later years and never lost his sense of humour.

Besides his loving wife Norma, Bob is survived by a son, and two daughters,  Kris Walterson, Sherry Walterson, Kirsten Walterson (Kevin); three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  He is also survived by two nephews and a niece in Manitoba, Les Walterson (Lois),  Gerry Walterson(Colleen), and Kimberley  Zerbin(Ray); brother-in-law Chris Larson (Linda) in High River, AB; and nephew Trevor Hyatt-Larson (Jaime) in Bakersfield, California.

Bob was predeceased by his mother Sigrun Chapman and stepfather Arnold Chapman of  Calgary; his father Frank Walterson and stepmother Blanche Walterson of Riverton, MB; brother William Walterson of Winnipeg, MB; stepson Michael Walterson, of Toronto, ON.

Memorial Services will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, (3219 – 4th Street NW, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023, at start time 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join Mr. Walterson’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
