Obituary of John Ivor James

John James, beloved husband of the late Eva James (Erickson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 106 years.

 

Papa John was predeceased in 1987 by his wife and best friend Eva (married in 1938), and he has been alone but loved ever since.

 

He made it to 106 and a half years plus twelve days and would have been proud of that.

 

He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in January 1941, retiring to Calgary as a Warrant Officer First Class in 1971. He enjoyed the fact that he had spent more time as a pensioner than he had working.

 

John traveled the world with the military but was privileged in retirement to watch the subsequent generations grow up here, where he and Eva were important parts of their lives and still are.

 

He is survived by his two sons, Doug (Fran) and Ric (Kathy); four grandchildren, Shane (Athena), Kerri, Heather, and Dan; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Madison, and Elijah.

 

He was a sweet gentleman, with a lovely sense of humour, and he will be missed terribly.
