Obituary of Sumitra Tailor
April 6, 1948 – Soroti, Uganda
May 11, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Sumitraben Tailor, born April 6, 1948, passed away suddenly, but peacefully after a battle with COVID with her son Rakesh by her side on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the age of 75 years. The family remains deeply saddened by her unexpected passing.
She was born in Soroti, Uganda, and married Chandrakant Tailor in 1968. They welcomed their first son Heman in 1969. In 1972, following the political crisis in Uganda, the family took refuge in Quebec, Canada, where they welcomed their second son Rakesh in 1975. The family eventually settled in Calgary in 1978, where they would call home for the years to follow.
Over the years Sumitraben would become well known in the community, always lending an ear to listen, offering help whenever needed, and known for her always smiling face and delicious chai. Those who knew her will remember her as kind, warm, loving, and friendly. Sumitraben had a strong work ethic and retired at age 72.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband Chandrakant; her son Heman and his wife Darshana; her son Rakesh, his wife Nisha and their children, Cassius and
Raya.
Abroad, she is survived by her brothers, Pravin (wife Kailas) and Jayanti (wife Dharmista); and her sister Tara; along with all of their children and extended family.
Sumitraben will always remain lovingly close in our hearts and the memory of her kind nature and smile will stay with us forever.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join Mrs. Tailor’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
