Obituary of Harold Hornford

Harold Hornford of Calgary, AB, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at the age of 97 years after a brief hospitalization.
Dad married his sweetheart Lois in July 1950, who passed away in 2017, and we miss her daily. They went on to have 4 children, Pam, Laurie, Dave, and Chris. Together they enjoyed many happy times with their children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends at their house on Mara Lake, BC. They also had their special happy place at their cabin on the Red Deer River.
Dad was born on the family farm near Elfros, SK. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a degree in Engineering & Geology in 1949. He worked in the Leduc oilfield in the early 50s. He had the honour of working with Aubrey Kerr, who later acknowledged Dad in his book ‘LEDUC’. We loved hearing about his horseback expeditions mapping the province’s geological formations. Dad was instrumental in the development of the oilsands. He retired from Petro Canada’s Drilling and Explorations division, and started his own consulting business.
We will always feel his presence, and yet feel the loss. Dad you raised us well and we promise to make you proud.
Funeral Services will be held at Holy Cross Anglican Church ( 2828-19th Street NW) on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. Reception to follow. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
Dad did not have a favourite charity, he donated to many great causes. If friends so desire, memorial tributes should be made directly to an organization that does great things and lifts your heart.
