Obituary of Marie Jeanetta Lester

Marie Lester (nee Smith) beloved wife of Gordon Lester of Calgary, AB, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the age of 71 years.
Born in Red Deer, Alberta on September 1, 1951, Marie married Gordon Lester in 1970 and they subsequently moved to Calgary in 1971.
Marie made many friends during her career of 30 plus years at the University of Calgary. She also enjoyed making many friends in the Crowchild Hockey and Bow Ridge Little League communities while cheering on her son Doug from the sidelines.
She greatly enjoyed travelling including her many vacations along the Oregon Coast. Her most memorable vacation was when she and Gordon travelled to England and France to celebrate her 60th birthday.
Marie will be most remembered for her love of people and her loving and genuine spirit.
In addition to her loving husband, Marie is survived by her son Douglas and daughter-in-law, Elynne (Poisson) of Calgary, AB. Marie is also survived by her four sisters, Linda Rogers (Jim, deceased), Donna Summach (Lyle, deceased), Kathy Walsh (Tim) and Lorrie Gregor (Walter John) and her sister-in-law Joyce Flanagan (Sean); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Viola and Raymond Smith, her in-laws Gladys and Eugene Lester, and her brothers-in-law, Lyle Summach, Jim Lester, and Jim Rogers.
A Celebration of Life will be held at C3 Calgary West Church, 91 Commercial Ct., Calgary (near Calaway Park) on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 12:00 P.M.
