ERESMAN, Rose (nee Schwengler) October 28, 1929 – Krupp, Saskatchewan August 10, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta Rose Eresman beloved wife of John Eresman of Calgary, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Calgary home on August 10, 2014 at the age of 84 years. Rose was born on October 28, 1929 in a sod hut near Krupp, SK (Liebenthal/Fox Valley District) where she grew up on the family farm. An intelligent woman keen on learning she left home to attend high school in the town of Richmond, where she stayed with her grandmother until graduating in 1947. In 1948 Rose married John Eresman and they began their 65 years together. In 1949 they moved to Medicine Hat. Rose worked a variety of jobs including the glass factory and greenhouses. Rose and John also farmed and ran a small grocery store in the mid-fifties. Rose went on to work as a housekeeper and forged friendships with her employers which were some of Medicine Hat’s most prominent families. Her final and most rewarding job was managing the Redi-Enterprises Bottle Depot where she became a surrogate mother to many of the handicapped people who worked there. She had a special place in her heart for two of the workers, Jimmy and Nelda, who lived with Rose and John for several years. Rose loved to travel and was full of adventure. She organized many vacations for her family over the years. In retirement they moved to Sorrento, BC and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Rose will be best remembered for her love of family, for being a wonderful host and making everyone welcome in her home as well as for being a great cook. She leaves a loving family including her husband John of 65 years and 5 children; Darlene (Harvey Hittel), Cheryl (Jim Freeman), Dale (Connie Zepick), Randy (Shelly Rayner) and Renee (Paul Chateau), plus 10 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, and her two wonderful caregivers for the past several years, Joy and May. She is also survived by her sisters Rachel Hellman, Clara Eresman, Veronica Garner and her brother Ken Schwengler. She was predeceased by her son Murray and brother Tony in 1960 and by her parents Mike and Jenny Schwengler. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 1566 Northmount Drive N.W. (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive N.W.) on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road. S.E., Medicine Hat, AB on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.hffs.com. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rose’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society Canada at www.alz.org
