Obituary of Violet DERER

Please share a memory of Violet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Violet, beloved wife of the late Edward Derer, passed away at McKenzie Towne Care Centre on August 31, 2014 at the age of 97 years. Violet was born on June 29, 1917 in Calgary and was the second child to Ellen and Ruben Buckingham. Calgary is also where she and Edward raised their two children Diana and Don. Violet was an accomplished seamstress working for the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII. She was passionate about her flowers and was an avid and life-long gardener until the age of 95. Her other passions included music, animals and jig-saw puzzles. She loved visitors, and her door was always open where there would be a hot cup of tea along with her famous sugar and peanut butter cookies, and for her grandchildren there would always be a jar full of jelly beans. Violet is survived and will be sadly missed by her children Diana (Donald) LeBlanc and Don (Jeannie) Derer; and her five grandchildren, Erin, Jeremy, David, Stephen and Gregory; and two great-grandchildren Raven and Sklyer. A Private Graveside Ceremony will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219 – 4th Street N.W. on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7, Telephone: (403)205-4455, www.calgaryhumane.ca. Violet’s family would like to thank the staff of McKenzie Towne Care Centre for their compassionate care of Violet in the past two and a half years.
