SHERLOCK, Frederick John March 27, 1917 - Walton, Surrey October 4, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Frederick “John” Sherlock, D.F.C., on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 97 years old. Born in Walton-on-Thames, England, John came to Calgary with his family when he was just 2 years old. WWII took him to England and Malta to fly Spitfires for the R.C.A.F. With the end of the war, he returned to his home in Calgary where he married, started a family and joined the family business as an insurance adjuster. He truly enjoyed Alberta life making time for fly fishing, gardening, and skiing. John was a gifted storyteller and will be remembered for his never failing positive outlook on life and appreciation of the outdoors. John’s philosophy was “yesterday was a good day but today will be even better.” This lively, quick-witted and greatly admired man has been an inspiration and mentor to all of our family. His unconditional love and support will be greatly missed. John was predeceased by his loving wife Marjorie Bishop (2006) and his dearly missed son Rolf (2008). He will be remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Royale and Paul Downes; daughter-in-law Gail Sherlock; grandchildren Tyler Downes (Karolina), Lyndsay (Jeff) Lingard, Mark and Lisa Sherlock; great-grandchildren Claire and Larsen Lingard. Our family will be having a private celebration for this exceptional man. Forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
