Obituary of Harold BOLAND

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harold Boland passed away peacefully at the age of 77 years on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 after suffering the effects of Alzheimers. Harold was born to Jane and Patrick Boland near Glasgow in Baillieston, Scotland, and was one of six children. He has three surviving siblings: his brother Robert, and sisters Patricia and Sadie; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and other friends and family. Dad was a true Scotsman who stood strong, rarely wavered from his beliefs and was true to his word to the end of his noble life. He immigrated to Canada in 1953, to work his trade as a plumber. He was a member of the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada Local 496. After working in Eastern Canada, dad went to Regina, Saskatchewan where he found the love of his life, Olga. They met at a dance and we believe they may be having a dance together now. Dad loved country music, cowboy boots and Stetson hats, and with his fearless cowboy spirit, took his family (with a child on the way) west to Calgary, Alberta, where he had dreams of providing a better life for his wife and children. He loved the sunshine, the water, and the mountains and one of his favourite spots was Radium Hot Springs. He was an avid gardener and fed his children with the fruits (vegetables) of his labour. His favourite treat after a long day was a Cadbury Thick Dairy Milk bar. Harold worked hard to give his children more than he had and for that, we are grateful. He taught us a great deal and we will miss him so much. His children would like to say, Dad your job here is done, and you did a great job. May your cowboy boots find only happy trails in the future. Well take over from here. We love you. Left to mourn the loss of Harold are seven children: Bryan (Maureen), Gary (Karen), Doug (Carla), Scot (Shauna), Heather (Martin), Kelli (Jordan) and Tami (Andrew) and nine grandchildren: Tanya, Josh, Riley, Brittany, Bryce, Ty, Jacob, Sophia and Ruby. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Olga, in 2006. Funeral Services were held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.
