Alex Brodie of Calgary, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the age of 96 years. Alex was born on December 21, 1913 in Port Burquitlam, British Columbia to Alex and Margaret Brodie. He served his country with the R.C.A.F. as Corporal from 1943 to 1946. Upon returning home, Alex worked for many years as a steam engineer with Standard Brands. He was an active member of Hillhurst United Church for over sixty years, serving on numerous boards and committees. Alex is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Barry Emmons; son, Barry Brodie; son and daughter-in-law, Greig and Donna Brodie; as well as five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret; second wife, Delta and sisters, Jean Brodie, Barbara Sharp and Margaret (Peggy) Holt. A Memorial Service was held at Hillhurst United Church (1227 Kensington Close N.W.) on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Families for Children (111 Roseheath Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M4C 3P6) www.familiesforchildren.ca or to Hillhurst United Church (1227 Kensington Close N.W.) 403-283-1539.
