Obituary of Archie BROWN

Archie (Archibald) Brown was born in Calgary, Alberta, September 4, 1914 passed away peacefully on June 30, 2011. Archie is survived by his daughter Brenda (Dave) Elford of Kitchener, Ontario; granddaughter Laurel Williamson; great-grandson Matthew Williamson; great-granddaughter Delaina Williamson; grandson Dwight (Rachael) Pineau; great-grandson Julien Pineau; granddaughter Tracy (Stu) Read; great-grandson Graeme Read of Brantford, Ontario; his other daughter Twyla Gardiner of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan; Ken (Blanka) Pineau of Calgary, Alberta. He is also survived by cousins; Erica (Bob) Armstrong; Anne Spencer of Toronto, Ontario; Robert (Marti) Watson & family of Nazaeth, Pennsylvania; Bill (Florence) Niven of Glasgow, Scotland; Barb and Pat Rae-Tain, Scotland as well as nieces, nephews and long time friends in B.C., Calgary, Ontario and overseas. Archie was predeceased by his father Andrew in 1968, his mother Janet in 1976, his first wife of thirty-two years, Dorothy in 1990 and his second wife of twenty-six years, Audrey in 2001. Archie worked for the City of Calgary in various departments for forty-two years, retiring in 1979 as Chief Dispatcher, Manchester Yards. Archie was active on the boards of both Wesley United and St. Andrews United Churches. He was a member of St. Matthews United Church before his move to Kitchener. During his life, Archie was a member of the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus and played soccer for the Calgary Callies Soccer team until his early forties. Music and soccer were his great passions and he enjoyed providing at-home concerts to family and friends. He enjoyed camping, starting with Brenda when she was young and the many tours and cruises during his life. His most memorable was his last trip to Hawaii with Brenda in 2002. In April 2005, Archie moved to live with Brenda and Dave in Kitchener, Ontario and enjoyed touring that part of the country and having that special time sharing with them in his last few years. Those wishing to pay their respects did so at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. A Gathering for family and friends was held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service Celebrating Archies Life at 2:00 PM. A Reception was held at his granddaughters home following the celebration and internment. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Dads honour directly to the charity of the donors choice.
