Obituary of George CONNOLLY

We are very sad to announce the sudden passing of George Connolly on Friday, March 11, 2011. George was born in Grimsby, England on July 19, 1933. He came to Canada as a young boy crossing the ocean on the SS Nerissa with his family in 1941 settling in Calgary. As a young man George worked as a ranch hand in the Highwood area of Alberta where he developed a life long love for the outdoors and true cowboy spirit. His ambition eventually brought him to Montreal where he developed a successful career as a machinery appraiser while raising his young family with his wife Barbara. Continuing his love for the outdoors and pride of workmanship, George spent many hours tending to the family cottage in the Laurentians of Quebec. Eventually George moved his family back to his Canadian roots in Calgary where he pursued a career as a manager/owner of retail service stations in Calgary and Drumheller where he lived for numerous years. Georges passion for the outdoors continued well into his retirement, spending many days seeking out and exploring many fishing holes. In recent years George lived at Sunny Hill Wellness Centre where he met his dear friend and companion Trudy Hardy. George will be fondly remembered for his friendly outgoing spirit and great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by Trudy, his two daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Lemieux and Karen Cribbes; grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor and Matthew; his caring sister Dorothy Vigor; brothers, Harry, Ted, Don and Bruce; along with numerous other relatives and friends. George was predeceased by his son Glen in 2001.
