Obituary of Margaret COOPER

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marg Cooper (Mom) on September 11, 2010 in Calgary at the age of 84 years. Marg was born in Biggar, SK and moved with her family to Hythe, AB. She married John T. Cooper in the Hillhurst United Church in Calgary on February 28, 1951. Marg and John were married for fifty one years until Johns passing in 2002. Marg spent many hours volunteering for the Thorncliffe Community Association in the late 60s. The Coopers developed life long friends living in Thorncliffe. The family reluctantly transferred to Edmonton in 1969 and were happy to return to Calgary in 1972. Marg continued her volunteering at the new and far edge of town Huntington Hill Community Association; this lasted throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s. Marg and John spent many years as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona. In Mesa they met many new friends and caught up with old friends and relatives. They enjoyed the sunshine, cheap booze and the slots. Marg did not miss the snow and was happy to hear reports of how cold it was in Calgary as she and dad got to bask in the warmth down south. For the past six years Marg had been living at the Harbours of Newport in Calgary, where she met many new friends who she thanks for their company and well wishes. Marg is survived by three sons Coleman, Brent (Joyce), and Kelly (Sheila); and her granddaughter Alyssa (Brent); also left to mourn is Margs sister Donna Shail of Hythe and numerous nieces and nephews. Marg was pre-deceased by sisters Gwen and Dorothy; brothers Eugene, Ron and Alistar (Scotty). The family would like to thanks the many people who aided in comfort to Marg these past few months. Trecy and the staff at Classic Caregivers, Colleen and her team from Alberta Health Services; the staff at Foothills Medical Centre Unit 62; all the great people at Sarcee Hospice and of course, friends and family. Marg was a great person, nice and friendly to all. She was generous and loving, loved to have fun and will be missed by all who knew her. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Calgary Health Trust Sarcee Hospice, Suite 800, 11012 MacLeod Trail S.E., Calgary, AB T2J 6A5, Telephone: (403)943-0615, www.thetrust.ca .
