Lou Mackie, beloved husband of Vena Mackie of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the age of 86 years. Lou was born February 25, 1924 in Poland. He came to Canada as a young child settling in Alberta. Lou served his country with the R.C.A.F. during WWII. He married Vena Moore and together they made their home in Calgary. Lou worked for 35 years as a machinist for the Canadian Western Natural Gas Company retiring in 1982. Lou was a great outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and camping. Most of all, he was a proud father and grandfather. He would never miss a baseball or hockey game, and was their biggest fan. Lou is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vena; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marion and their children, Jocelyn and Bradley; daughter, Joy Inkster and her sons, Murray and Matthew. Lou is also survived by his brothers, Eddie and Ken Stremecki and sister, Stella Major as well as several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his sister, Jenny Gunn. Funeral Services were held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 2:00p.m. Special thanks to the staff in the Churchill wing of the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Centre for the compassionate care shown to Lou and our family.
