Obituary of James "Jim" THOMPSON

Jim passed away at Carewest Garrison Green after an amazingly long life of 100 years and 6 months.
Jim immigrated to Canada in 1927 with his family to the family farm north of Wapella, SK. He returned to England in 1938 and joined the Royal Air Force just prior to the outbreak of WWII. He served in England, South Africa and India eventually returning to England. There he married Joyce in 1945 and their daughter was born in 1946.
Jim returned to Canada with Joyce and Ann in 1955 and settled in Calgary. He and Joyce enjoyed many years camping and fishing both in Alberta and BC. As well as fishing, Jims passions were reading, growing marvelous roses and his dogs.
Jim had many friends and many interests. He was largely self-educated and very knowledgeable on many topics.
Jim is survived by his daughter Ann (Dan) Philips of Calgary; two brothers Ken Thompson of Whitewood, SK and Phil (Kaye) Thompson of Regina, SK; two sisters Kathleen (Ross) Reid of Vernon, BC and Peggy Hay of Calgary. Also saddened by his passing are his niece and nine nephews, as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Joyce (1997); his father James Thompson (1971); his mother Clara Thompson (1978); his sister Ida Saunders (2009); his brother Leslie Thompson (2011); brothers-in-law Wilf Saunders (1971) and George Hay (2005); and sister-in-law Lydia Thompson (2011).
No formal funeral will be held. Details of a reception in Jims memory will be made available to family and friends at a later date. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com.

The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Catherine McKenna for her exceptional care and attention to Jim as well as his very special personal caregivers Tammy Morrison, Nicole Borriello and Necita Agustin who were instrumental in making invaluable improvements to Jims quality of life in long term care. Thanks also go to the other personal caregivers who attended Jim less frequently but who also contributed to his well being. Thanks go to Mark and JoAnne of Home Care Assistance for their skills in providing such caring people and making sure they were suited to Jims personality and needs. Appreciation is also due to the third floor Carewest Garrison Green nursing staff and personal care attendants, particularly Julie, Terry, Daria, June, Jenny and Anna Rosa.
