Obituary of Lucy LYON-KEITH

Lucy Blanche Lyon Keith passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in Calgary, AB at the age of 82 years. Lucy was born in Skownan, Manitoba on January 7, 1931 and was the sixth of eight siblings. She attended the Misericordia Nursing School in Winnipeg and graduated as a registered nurse in 1952. She began her nursing career in Winnipeg and then moved with two of her closest nursing friends to Kipling, Saskatchewan where she worked at the new hospital. Lucy met the husband of her four children, Lionel John Keith (1926-2011), while he was a patient at the Kipling hospital in 1953. Lucy and Lionel were married in Winnipegosis on May 24, 1954. From there they soon moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where they began their family with the birth of their first son Gary (Fiona). In 1955 the young Keith family moved to the city of Edmonton where Lucy and Lionel had three more boys, Regan (Carmen), Hugh (Anna) and John (Susan). Lucy and her family moved to Calgary in 1966, where she resided for the rest of her life. Lucy is survived by her sisters Cecile, Marie and her brother Roy. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Kirsty, Kelsey, James, Matthew, Thomas and Gavin. She is further survived by three great-grandchildren, Joel, Isla and Lorelei. Lucy was predeceased by her siblings Ellen, Eugene, Yvonne, George, and by her late husband William Hunter Lyon who she cherished very much. Lucy was a very caring and loving person who will be remembered fondly for her beautiful smile, kindness and generosity for others. She loved her extended family and was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 1961. Lucy enjoyed many hours of bridge with dear friends in several clubs. She was an excellent cook and her baking skills were renowned, especially for her cinnamon buns which were loved by all. She was very active right to the end of her life travelling with friends and family to Mexico, California, and Hawaii. She will be dearly missed by all.
