Obituary of Leslie THOMPSON

Leslie passed away in the early hours of September 4, 2010 at the age of 96 at the Calgary Foothills Medical Centre. Leslie is survived by his three brothers, James Thompson (Calgary), Ken Thompson (Whitewood, SK.), Phil (Kaye) Thompson (Regina, SK.) ; two sisters, Kathleen (Ross) Reid (Vernon, B.C.) and Peggy Hay (Calgary). Also saddened by his passing, are his 2 nieces; 9 nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; as well as his great friend Lana Kinzer. Leslie was always keenly interested in the lives of all the family members and news of their lives and careers always gave him great pleasure. He was pre-deceased by his father James Thompson (1971); his mother Clara Thompson (1978); his sisters-in-law Joyce Thompson (1997) and Lydia Thompson (2011); his brothers-in-law Wilf Saunders (1971) and George Hay (2005) and his sister Ida Saunders (2009). Leslie immigrated to Canada in 1927 with his family, to the family farm north of Wapella, SK. When WWII broke out he joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment and was wounded at Dieppe. He eventually returned to the farm where he remained until retiring to Calgary. He then served for a number of years with the Corps of Commissionaires. Leslie lately was a resident at the Colonel Belcher Seniors Residence. He enjoyed his years there and made many good friends among both residents and staff. In keeping with Leslies wishes no formal funeral will be held. Details of a Reception in his memory will be available at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Calgary Foothills Medical Centre, in particular Dr Nesdoly, Dr Watson, Dr Van Wyck, Dr Eisner and the nurses on Unit 62 for their care of Leslie.
