Obituary of Edith TURNER
Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sydney Turner has left behind a life of elegance, the love of her children and a fierce pride in her native city. Born in Calgary on July 10, 1922, Sydney was the eldest daughter of Olga and J. Fred Scott, a colonel in the Calgary Highlanders. She attended St. Hildas School for Girls and McGill University. She was an original member of the Glencoe Club and a long-time member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club where she sank two holes-in-one. Thankful for her many years of volunteer work, in 1991 the Junior League of Calgary created the Sydney Turner Sustainers Award for Sustainer of the Year. Sydney will be missed by her sister, Sheila Davis (Victoria, B.C.); brother Fred and his wife Billie (Shushwap, B.C.). Her youngest brother Jim, a pilot, died in a plane crash. Sydney will also be lovingly missed by daughter Susan (Calgary); daughter Victoria (Cliff) from Ottawa; her sons, Jim (Christine) and Douglas (Calgary); grandchildren Mackenzie and Haylee (Ottawa); Alicia and Hannah (Calgary); nieces and nephews, Chris, Stuart and Leslie Davis and Laura, Cheryl and Fred Jr. Scott. Sydney lost her beloved daughter Alix in 2003. Generous, stylish, kind and funny, Sydney was a classy woman. A service Honouring Sydney was held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 8th Street SW) on Friday, June 17 at 2:30 pm, followed by a Sydney Celebration Party at the Calgary Golf and Country Club. Suggested dress code: colourful, full of lifelike Sydney. If friends so desire, donations can be made directly in Alix Turners name to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (Calgary Chapter), #309, 8989 MacLeod Trail S, Calgary, AB T2H 0M2.
