Obituary of Dorothy WALLACE

Dorothy Wallace, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, died on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the age of 97 years. Born in Kansas City, Missouri she came to Calgary when she was five, and lived in Calgary until February, 2010, when she moved to Cedarwood Station in Airdrie. An active woman all her life, she was principal of Hendersons Secretarial School during World War II, associate Sponsor (with her husband, George) of the Dale Carnegie Courses in Alberta until 1974, District Secretary for the Canadian Cancer society for ten years, and then an Executive Secretary in the Commercial Development Division of the Toronto Dominion Bank. In 1990, she retired from her last paying work at age 77 years. During her life she was active in The United Church of Canada, first at Hillhurst United, then at Wesley United, and lately, at Airdrie United. A strong, vibrant, outgoing person, she is survived by her daughter, Carol MacKinnon and Don Westrop, her son (Rev.) Bob Wallace and (Rev.) Sarah Wallace, grandchildren Michael Mitchell and Heather, Samantha Adams and Michael, Catherine Wallace and Stephen Warren, David Wallace, John Wallace, and two great-grandsons, Ewan Mitchell and Aidan Warren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, other relations, and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1974. A Celebration of Dorothys Life was held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 16th Avenue N.W. (across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary) Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
