Olive “Ollie” passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the age of 90 years. Ollie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba as the fourth child of Wesley and Mabel Foreman. Growing up in Winnipeg, where she modeled for the Eaton’s catalogue. Ollie then moved to BC during World War II, and worked in the Yarrows ship yards as a “rivet passer” building warships in Victoria for the Royal Canadian Navy, where she met her first husband, Johnnie Dumont. Later on during the war, Ollie became a waitress at the St. James Café in Victoria. She then moved to Whitehorse, Yukon Territories to again wait on tables, and where she married Johnnie. Ollie was proud of her only child, Carol Anne, and as a single mother in 1947, raised her with much pride. She was widowed at a very young age, and later in Victoria met and in 1952 married Bob Meacock, her “soul mate” for the next fifty-two years. Ollie and Bob lived in New Westminster, BC until the year 2000, when they relocated to be near their daughter in Calgary, Alberta. Ollie enjoyed her time in Calgary meeting many new friends at her condominium in Huntington Hills Pavilions. She will be widely remembered as a very warm and outgoing person who brought out much charm, and was instantly liked by the people with whom she came in contact. Ollie is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Anne (Fred) Battle; grandchildren Jayme (Melanie) Battle, Jeremy Battle and Kara Battle; great-grandchildren Olivia and Mateo Battle; brother William (Mary) Foreman; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Johnnie Dumont in 1947, her second husband Bob Meacock in 2004, her parents, brother Edgar and sisters Lila (Eric) Coulson, Ruth (George) Griffiths and Eloise (Jack) Carruthers. At Ollie’s request, there will be a Private Family Funeral Service.
