Obituary of Doris GILBART
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Gilbart passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the age of 85 years, joining her beloved husband Leith who predeceased her.
Doris grew up with her family on a farm near Weyburn, SK. Growing up through the depression, Doris learned to be accepting, independent, and grateful for her blessings. She taught these lessons to her children through her loving care and fine example. Doris was a life long learner, reading books on many subjects from history to fiction. She spent many hours in her garden every year tending her flowers. Hands never idle, her creativity produced gifts for her family of quilts, dolls, sweaters, and other handicrafts. Doris was known for her cookies and homemade bread on Fridays. Doris and Leith were very generous, and their childrens friends were always welcome in their home. Doris and Leith were members of the Nifty Fifties club, and even after he passed away she enjoyed spending time with her friends in the womens craft group. She was very proud of her grandchildren, and enjoyed their close relationship.
She is survived by her daughter Alison; sons William and James; granddaughters Dylana, Danika, and grandson Dallas; siblings George, Jean, and Edna, and their families. She was also predeceased by granddaughter Kailey, and siblings Margaret, Mary, Mac.
Every month, Doris made sure to think of others and write a cheque to one of her favourite charities. In honour of her, memorial donations are gratefully directed to cancer research, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #204, 2323 32nd Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3 Telephone: (403) 266-0620, ext. 112, www.diabetes.ca.
