Obituary
Obituary of Kathleen GALLAGHER
Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In her 92nd year, Katie passed away peacefully, at Foothills Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Penhold, Alberta, Katie was the daughter of the late Norman Stewart and Esther Lizzie Hives originally from Leicestershire, England (immigrated, 1904). Norman Stewart came to Alberta in 1884 with his family from Dundee Scotland, via Ontario. Esther and Norman married in 1909 and Katie was their fifth of six children. Katie was the last surviving member of the Stewart pioneer generation that was known for excellence in farming, as hardware merchants and as the International Harvester dealer in the Red Deer Penhold area. Katie and her sisters were active members of the Stewart Brothers business and the farm especially during WWII when they managed and manned the business, while the Stewart men were at war. Katie married Jack Gallagher of Winnipeg in 1949 and was his silent and strong partner as Jack pursued the growth of Dome Petroleum. Katie was a caring mother, an accomplished artist, an outstanding gardener and an avid golfer.
Predeceased by her husband Jack (1998), she is survived by her sons Jim (Pam) of Toronto, Tom (Christine) of Calgary and Fred (Heather) of Mill Bay. She was a proud grandmother to Erin, Kevin, Michael, Shannon, Ryan, Laura and Kelsey.
A Celebration of Katies life will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park, 3602 8th Street SW, Calgary, AB on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
