Obituary of George McQUITTY

Al McQuitty passed away peacefully on October 15, 2011 at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, AB at the age of 85 years. Al grew up in Winnipeg, MB. He joined the army with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in 1944-1949 and was with the Royal Canadian Army Engineers from 1950-1953. Al started working for Canada Safeway in 1953 as a construction supervisor. He retired, after 38 years of service to Canada Safeway, in 1991, as Vice President of Construction and Design for Canada. Al is survived by his son Craig McQuitty; daughter Alana (John) Twohig; grandchildren Keith and Cara Twohig; sister Joy Albright; sister-in-law Helen McQuitty, and many other relatives in the McQuitty and MacLennan families. Al was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean, in 1992 and by his brother, John early in 2011. A Celebration of George’s life took place at the Royal Canadian Legion, North Calgary Branch No. 264, 1910 Kensington Road N.W. Calgary, from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011.
